overcome obstacles

Although this hasn't been the most successful season in terms of getting in all the required training I still view it as a success.

Organizing & structuring a 6-7 day training week around your family, career & significant other can be very difficult & somewhat stressful on different levels.

I have had lower back issues since December of last year that i haven't been able to shake off at the moment. This has been extremely discouraging in terms of maintaining consistent workouts as it always sits in the back of your mind & you wrestle with the potential to further the injury with your sub-conscious mind.

However, with that said I have still been able to build a great base this year & I feel my swimming & biking have really come along. Now for the run it's just a matter of logging some long runs in before the great white north 1/2 ironman in July.

The golden triangle 330km 3 days of biking was awesome. the first day was a struggle up the enormous hill into radium. The second day the 4 of us led by birdman set an awesome pace finishing the 90km bike ride in 2 hours 27 minutes averaging right around 38km/hour on road bikes. A great feeling for a second hard day of riding. The third day birdman left me in the dust as most of the day was climbing hills & he rides like a trojan on hills. I rode at my heartrate threshold not knowing what terrain I was going to run into. I felt incredible for the 4 hour 15 minute ride. Getting involved in some drafting with a few groups of cyclists was great for my experience as this is the first of many encounters to come for me.

I am looking forward to the Wasa triathlon coming up & I consider it to be a training race as I don't think I will be 100% at that point. This is great because I don't have any expectations other than to complete the race & feel strong at all three legs.

Great white north & Calgary are coming up & I have to be strong mentally in order to block out this unusual injury & get the training done.
