Bright Future For Canadian Cycling

If all goes well tomorrow for Tour De France Stage 20, Ryder Hesjedal of Canada will become the 2nd Canadian to break the top 10 in the hardest bike race in the world since Steve Bauer of Canada in 1988.

This is a fantastic story for Canada.

Here are Ryders comments on chosing not to race for Canada in the commonwealth games:

Meanwhile, Hesjedal addressed his decision to bypass the 2010 Commonwealth Games in October at Delhi.

“I love wearing the national team jersey but Canada has a great rising younger crop of riders that could really benefit in the future from riding in an event with the profile of the Commonwealth Games and this will be a great opportunity for them,”

A closer look at the Canadian Roster for the commonwealth games:

Men

Michael Barry (Toronto): road race.
Svein Tuft (Langley, B.C.): road race, time trial.
Ryan Roth (Cambridge, Ont.): road race, time trial.
Will Routley (Whistler, B.C.): road race.
Zach Bell (Watson Lake, Yukon): points race, scratch race, road race, time trial.
Travis Smith (Calgary): 1k time trial, sprint, keirin.
Women

Erinne Willock (Victoria): road race.
Joelle Numainville (Montreal): road race, time trial.
Tara Whitten (Edmonton): individual pursuit, points race, scratch race, team sprint, road race, time trial.
Alison Testroete (Abbotsford, B.C.): road race.
Julie Beveridge (Calgary): road race, time trial.

It will be very intersting to see what Zach Bell, Will Routley & Svein Tuft can do in the road race!

Not to mention Svein Tuft with his enormous strength in the Individual Time Trial!

Things are looking great for the Canadian Cycling Community!
